Because
there is nothing like the feel of an old book, perhaps.
I back up everything, but I still keep the originals depending on what they are. I toss things that are somewhat important but are on disk/CD. I keep the 1500 plus items from my mothers (pictures, records, etc) that I've scanned and am going to send to all family members (along with all the other family stuff I've scanned over the years) this winter.
Or money. Doing that costs money, not only equipment, but training and more rented space to hold that equipment and the rcords while they are being worked on, and I think they are having problems keeping up over there. It is growing so fast they are fighting a losing battle on some fronts and this is one.
BTW, some of the records I mentioned above include paperwork from my great grandfather who was a doctor that worked on "slave ships" in the 1800's. Some were coming to America, some were returning to Liberia. I have learned that when someone died at sea they placed them in a burlap bag with a 2 foot piece of rail (figured out it was a 2 foot piece of railroad track) and threw them overboard. Death certificates would list the number of miles out from the closest country.
Some of his descriptions of living conditions are disgusting. Not a proud time in our history.
