Ames, IA?
Hello, we are thinking of relocating to Ames. The schools look good, cost of living is affordable and it has ISU. Can anyone give me some information on the town? Anyone live there or have family who live there? Thanks!

I never lived in Ames but it definitely sounds like a very nice place to live based on everything I've heard and read about it. It's much larger than say another college town like Cedar Falls, IA where they filmed the movie 'Sleeping With the Enemy."

I live in the bedroom community of Huxley, about 9 miles south of Ames. Everything you've heard is true; Ames is a nice, clean town with good schools and plenty of choices for dining, shopping, and socializing. And most of what Ames doesn't have can be found by taking a short drive on I-35 to the Des Moines metro area.
If there's anything specific you need to know about Ames or the surrounding area, just let me know and I'd be happy to try to find the answer for you!

ISU Graduate
I have lived in Ames for about 5 years getting my college degrees. I did the dorm thing for the first year and then moved around to apartments on different sides of town for the rest of the time. It is a really nice place to live, I would stay away from the campus town area, especially if you have children as drunk students are very unpredictable. Other than that, they are constantly building apartment buildings all over I think mainly because they are trying to become more of an off-campus university like IOWA. Homes for rent are abundant as well, and I know there are plenty of homes for sale, I just never looked into those much.

I wish I could move back to Ames. My husband and I graduated from ISU and it is such a wonderful place. So much to do, very nice people. I totally agree with what everyone else said. Huxley is a nice place too, growing. My husband got transferred to AZ in March and we will be moving again shortly. Hope to get back to that area soon!!
