I am looking at possibly relocating to Red Oak. What can anybody tell me about the town/area? Thank you in advance.

Red Oak is a pretty typical small Iowa town, though I think its more progressive than some smaller communities. It's clean, not much crime, most people know each other, and it's predominately white. To give you an idea of community activities, they have a parade of sorts for their high school football homecoming game that loops around their downtown city square, and quite a crowd comes out to watch. Don't be shocked, they have a K-Mart not a Walmart. Red Oak is only 40 or so miles from the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area, so if you want a taste of the city, it's not far away. Some small towns do take their time accepting new people, I'm not sure about Red Oak, but that's what I experienced in my area. Iowa does have their share of tornadoes so that's something you may not be used to and want to research. The East Nishnabotna River lies next to the town and the area has had past problems with flooding. That's something to consider if you relocate and intend to purchase a house.

You will probably get more reponses here but I would do a search of past Red Oak threads on C/D. I would take a look at their newspaper, read the chamber of commerce website, take a look on realtor.com for house prices in the area, and even check out the police and fires calls in the county. In reference to getting a job there, the more you know about the community the better. Here's a couple links you might find helpful. Good luck to ya.

Well I would have to ask what made you consider Red Oak out all the small towns? Do you have kids of school age? Do you need a job or are you retired? What do you enjoy doing with your free time?
