Is a McMansion attractive? NO

Price depends on location, location, LOCATION.

Don't feel bad. I once gave a phone clerk my Wyoming address. "Wyoming," she says. "That's a suburb of Denver, right?"

If one makes an error in the title of the thread, ya can't go back and edit it.

That house doesn't seem like any great deal to me. Of course location is the key element so a better idea of the property location would be helpful. And I agree about McMansions too.

I was a bit distracted when I wrote that post, sorry. OK, Iowa is not parallel with "cities". Also, my post was too vague.

I guess I am thinking that we get a lot of house for the money compared to what others pay in more urban areas. Of course, people value their location for reasons I might not relate to.

It still depends on location though. Iowa is a large state.

You can pay $40,000 for at huge old house (i.e...4,000+) in a small rural community or you could by $400,000 + association dues for a 2,000 sq ft condo in downtown DM.

Can you be more specific on what you're trying to compare?

fyi...I'm currently vacationing in Phoenix and due to the housing mkt burst, I could buy A LOT more house for my money here than I could in Des Moines.

Where are you now, and what areas of Iowa are you thinking of?
