^^^ A company, especially one that employs a skilled workforce, can't complete or even survive if it doesnt' take care of its most important (and expensive) resource. Its people.

I suspect IBM will be around for a long time.

Could it be that the supply of qualified employees is larger than the demand? If so, then IBM can get away with holding wages. It is a simple "supply and demand" pricing issue. It sucks not to get raises and not get overtime for non-standard hours. But it sure beats the alternative of being unemployed! Use it as motivation to seek a better job. Otherwise look at what you have instead of don't have and be thankful for it.
