My husband's job will be east of Des Moines. Ankeny adds more of a commute. Although I guess I don't really know what the traffic is like during rush hour. If it is anything like the twin cities then there is NO way that he will want to deal with that! Currently his commute is about 30 minutes but it is all 4 lane high way with no stop-and-go so makes for an easy commute.

^^ The commute to Ankeny wouldn't be bad, but IMO there is no real reason you'd need to move further than Altoona if he is working on the eastside. How about Pleasant Hill? I'm surprised you didn't ask about that eastern suburb too.

I guess I don't really know what suburbs to ask about! He will be driving close to Newton. Are there any other places that would be good for a young family? We are wide open at this point.

Driving to Newton from DM isn't a quick jaunt either, and I80 can be a nightmare in the winter.

Why not look into Newton if thats near where he will be? Its a little closer to DM than Pella.

I agree, Newton is a nice place for a family. But, I realize some people don't want to be too close to work.

I figured since you were looking at Altoona and Pella it must be someplace off 163.

OK. If you want to stay in the metro adn he's driving to Newton, then Altoona makes the most sense IMO.
