I don't like the arrogance coming from Americans saying immigrants should be forced to learn English as if it were so easy. Learning a language takes time, most of them are working hard labor jobs and simply don't have the resources to learn it well. Some of them just pick it up living here, and some don't. Regardless, you still need to know at least marginal English to succeed in this country, if that makes you happy.

OK, answer this Ronnie: I am an adult reading tutor. The OKC school system established a program many years ago to help non English speaking people there learn to speak English. The thinking was that they could better communicate with everyone, and to see what their children were learning in our schools. (gee, what an idea, huh?) There were different classes they could take at different times during the day and evening. Guess who didn't want to show up? Some even had the nerve to say they didn't want or need to speak English! That we could speak Spanish if we wanted to talk to them! Every convenience was made for them. It was completely free, including transportation to the administration building where the classes were taught. They never had a decent number of Spanish people show up. Some might have came a time or two and decided it was too hard, or not worth their time. We quit tutoring because we never knew if anyone would even be there! A lot of people don't think its hard to learn, but those are the ones who want to learn it.
