I believe I read about this ranking in the Des Moines paper, though it could have been somewhere else. It's nice to see Des Moines doing so well these days.

New York City ranks #113 in the 2007 survey, behind such business juggernauts like Hagerstown, Maryland...Lynchburg, Virginia....and Bremerton, Washington. In light of this, the New York Stock Exchange should be relocated to Raleigh or Provo instead.

I understand the concept of these surveys, but I'm not sure the total picture is taken into account. From what I can see at Forbes.com, only three criteria are used to compile this list. Given the fact that businesses are not monolithic in nature and past trends (which is the data Forbes uses here) don't always indicate future success, one could make the argument such surveys are ultimately an exercise in futility.

I'm surprised ANY PLACE in Iowa is on that list. Doesn't IA have the highest corporate income tax in the nation, like 12%? Not to mention extreme business property taxes? That's what I always hear anyway.

Like I said earlier, these lists of "best places" leave out important criterion while over-emphasizing others. Most ventures will do well anywhere in the US as long as they have a solid business model. Most people wouldn't have associated Bentonville, Arkansas as a city for a multi-billion dollar corporation to grow rapidly...but it has certainly happened.

LMAO!!!!

RJ and friends crawling out from under a rock again. Changing the banter to seem pro while revealing true colors by bashing.

Only the newbies still fall for your line...
