Family of 4 with two girls ages 12 and 6 looking to relocate to the Dubuque area. We currently live in Illinois in a small town of about 5000. We'd like to find a small town with good schools. My husband is in the carpentry field and I am in the secretarial field. We are used to commuting about 25 miles a day. Any suggestions for us as we make a fresh new start?

Have you thought about Galena? I have no idea what the schools are like, but it's certainly the most interesting town within 30 minutes or so of Dubuque.

QFT.

Secretarial field? If you consider that an entire field, you'll fit right in.

I'm replying here instead of starting a new thread, but I am moving to dubuque in about a week for a new job. I have 2 daughters 3 & 4 yrs old. Where would be a good area of the city to avoid? I just want to make sure to look for houses in an area where my kids can play outside, and I won't have to worry. We will be renting at first, but maybe buying in the future. Any response would be great!! Thanks!

The west and south sides are the safest areas of town

Nice smaller towns near Dubuque are Cascade, Epworth, Farley and Dyersville. All commuting distance to Dubuque.
