The only neighborhood in Dubuque I've ever seen that had a disproportionate number of down and out skid row looking people wandering around was the Washington Park area, which I suppose is to the NE of downtown.

Thanks.. I was a bit confused.Wloo's bad areas just jump out at you, so I was wondering about Dubuque, having not seen that much of it.

Some of these people would consider the shoplifiting of candy to be a major crime spree!! pretty silly. lol

Dubuque does NOT have a ghetto, major gang/drug problems, or rampant crime, for that matter. The argument that it has "bad" areas is weak at best, and based upon the "I-once-heard-somebody-say-something-bad-happened" logic. Not exactly factual, as is also the case with saying that housing is expensive in the city. I'm sorry, but both are laughable!

I see it this way: There is a certain element of the population in Dubuque that is trapped in a time warp, seeing things always in comparison to the white-picket fence neighborhood they lived in in 1951. Many became discouraged when the economy was tough in the 1980s, but, unfortunately, have remained in a perpetual state of pessimism since.

And you don't have to believe what I say on any of these issues... look at the crime and median rent statistics on the city's information page! Its all there for you.... clear and unbiased.
DBQer, are you a reincarnation of DubuqueAskMe who was busted as a total fraud?

LOL. I'm not a "reincarnation" of anybody. I am simply giving my best, unbiased, (and FACT-supported ) viewpoint in response to questions concerning Dubuque. By the way, if you have something PERSONAL to say to me, keep it off the forum and send a private message! My goodness...

Your opinions seem very accurate to me about Dubuque, I have been there and never lived there, but I think they are dead on.

haha that's where I grew up. It's um, different. Boring. It would be better if it were closer to a bigger city than Ottumwa. Used to be a great place to raise kids. Now, not so much. Blakesburg is much more of a Mayberry town than Ottumwa. I like visiting my folks, but I'm always ready to leave.
