There is usually a shooting every day somewhere in the Quad Cities. I also just saw that they had to shut down one of their little league facilities because some wangsta shot it up while the kids where playing baseball.
The Quad Cities definetly has some things that Muscatine doesnt, but I think your family life estimation is way off. The Quad Cities also has one of highest crime rates in Iowa, so I am not sure what you meant!!!!!

I think there has been atleast one shooting or stabbing on the quad cities news every day since my last post 3 months ago. Man-I bet the family life there is great.

Regarding crime in the Quad Cities, you really are painting an unfairly skewed picture. Crime in Davenport and Rock Island has dropped during two of the last three years on record, while places like Moline are at the national average, and Bettendorf is far below the national average. Davenport's violent crime is relegated to a very small area of the city, while the northeast side of the city is as safe as Bettendorf. There are far more safe areas in the QC than unsafe.
Also, if you're going to make a wild claim such as "there has been atleast one shooting or stabbing on the quad cities news every day since my last post 3 months ago"...you had better bring some verifiable evidence to support it.

I have lived in Davenport for 26 years and never been the victim of a violent crime. I even lived downtown for over 2 years. If you don't hang out with drug dealers and gang members, you have little to worry about. The people who run in those circles do seem to enjoy trying to kill each other though.

Ok, enough with the BS! You will need to visit the area to see what appeals to your preferences. The crime rate there is about average to what you will find across the state with similar sized cities. You will find the schools to be on average quality of education. As for recreation and attractions Muscatine does not offer much because the Quad Cities and Iowa City/Coralville are within decent driving distance. There are plenty of safe and clean neighborhoods that you can raise a family. Yes, South end Muscatine has been neglected over the years by the city that’s why it’s not an attractive area. If you consider commuting think about fuel prices and the winter weather we have all of the roads leading to Muscatine including US 61 are very susceptible weather. Fruitland is a hidden town on Muscatine’s south end that is growing quite fast with lots of new homes. But it does have some considerable drawbacks. Any further questions please feel free to ask.

For all of those parents who complain about schools. When was the last time you volunteered to help out in a class room, or helped your kids with home work or anything to further their education? Stop expecting schools to raise your children!
Don’t like the Government and think you can do a better job? Then why don’t you?
Cost of fuel to high? Stop driving everywhere! Walk! If you live to far from work either move or get a different job.

This notion that Davenport is a smaller version of Chicago or Detroit is just ridiculous and not statistically supported. For starters, the per-capita rates for murder and robbery is significantly lower in Davenport than either one of those cities. Also, as you mentioned, nearly all violent crime in Davenport is committed between parties who know each other. There is no significant amount of random violent crime in the city.

As long as you don't plan on joining one of these gangs, the chance of being affected is exceedingly low.

How stupid are people when it comes to crime and violence in cities? Wake up 'tickytack'! These people know each other ... they are the scum of the earth living in the scummy areas of the city. If you stay away from it, like 98% of the people do, and don't get involved with idiots - which shouldnt be hard to do - then the Quad Cities/Muscatine is very very safe.
My favorite areas around Muscatine are the small towns like Wilton, Moscow, and a little further out.. Tipton. All of my family is there though.

I can't believe the degree to which you've trashed this small town in Iowa...I've never been there but the pictures look nice. None of the things you've complained about would concern me. No malls...never go to malls...besides, if I wanted to there apparently is one 24 miles away. Bad housing market...I never plan on owning anything more than a mobile home. Nothing to do...parks, aquatic thingamajig? good enough for me. I've been through Iowa on an Amtrak train but that's about it...seemed very verdant and green though. That's about all I would want...and obviously I'd need a job. It really seems like you guys must hate America or something...why pick on this one small town?
