Where to live around Muscatine, IA?
I would appreciate if you could help me to pick a place to move, buy a house around Muscatine. I need to move with my job there and I would like to buy a house in a good area, safe. I have family and a small baby, so for me there is no much need of night life, but I would like to have nice parks around.
Is Muscatine a nice town? How is the job market? What about the cost of living?
Thank you for all your help!

I grew up in Muscatine, I hate it.....family is still there, but I visit as infrequently as I can and stay the minimum.
Nice town? IMO, no.

A nearby small town you might consider is Wilton. Population is about 3,000 and roughly 15 miles north of Muscatine. I used to work in Muscatine and the only good thing about it was seeing it in my rear view mirror.

Ok, I lived in Muscatine for 38 years and just recently moved to Illinois. TRUST ME, you DON'T want to live there !!
The job market stinks ( that's why I moved) and there is absolutely NOTHING to do for kids or adults. There isn't even a mall worthy of going to.
Just trust me, DON'T move there.

Don't let the naysayers get to you. Muscatine for the most part is like most any other town, It has it less desireable areas, but has some very nice areas to. $120 to $160k will get you into some pretty nice neighborhoods, especially these days, as the market here is down as are most markets these days. If I were you I would look on the northern or western sides of town, you would definately want to avoid the "south end". If you don't mind a little commute, Wilton, Durant, Fruitland, or Blue Grass are all within a 15 minute or so drive, and all are fairly nice little towns. If you would like some more info email me at: wingit1963@yahoo.com I'd be happy to help you any way I can.
I can hook you up with a very good realtor. As far as places to live, kind of depends on the amount you want/have to spend. I've lived here all my life, while at times I think why am I still here, all I have to do is read about other places and see that it's basically the same ole same ole everywhere else.
As far as things to do, we have a very nice aquatic center, in a very large public park. If you like walking trails or biking trails there are some here, with future expansion planned. Shopping in town isn't all that great, but you're only 35 to 40 minutes to either Iowa City or the Quad cities, if you can't find it there you probably don't need it. lol It amazes me the people who say there is nothing to do here. I guess if you think you have to pay for entertainment, then maybe so, but there is a big river right here, with plenty of fish to catch in it, or if you're into boating, trails to walk, several parks to play around in. I guess if all you want to do is shop, or party, then Muscatine isn't all that great of choice. We have a pretty good school system in this town also.
Where are you going to be working, I'm assuming HON or is it somewhere else.

I took classes at Muscatine Community College (onlne), so have been there a few times. It is a very small town. There is not much else around, I'm sorry to tell. If you can handle a small town, i would say don't look around Muscatine - look in it. From my handle however, you can guess that my second piece of advise would be to look elsewhere.
