Speaking of beer in east central Iowa, where other than the Amana Colonies would be the site of noteworthy Octoberfest celebrations in the region?
I miss the ethnic food & beverage mixture found in Iowa as regards the specialties of the Czech, German & Scandinavian cultures. Despite living in a state with 10 nearly miliion residents, I find that those cultures are absent to the degree that their flavor is largely missing from the food & beverage scene.

Here are some Oktoberfests around Iowa:

(Last year's Oktoberfest in Iowa City was huge).

Other festivities featuring ethinic foods/celebrations include:

Maifest in the Amanas ... in May

Pella Tulip Time ... Dutch food (May).

In Cedar Rapids:
- Houby Days is coming up in Czech Village.
- Czech Village Fall Festival (hope you like Goulash ).
- Kolach Festival has lots of pasteries (June).

Sauerkraut Days in Lisbon (August).

Solon Beef Days (July) ... is beef a native ethnic food of Iowa??

Des Moines' annual Oktoberfest is put on by the Hessan Haus each year in the Court Avenue District. It is a really good time:
