Default Thinking of moving back to Iowa

Hello everyone,
My husband and I are thinking of moving back to Iowa. I was born in Maquoketa but moved to Clinton when I was small and lived there all my life until we moved to Florida nearly 11 years ago. My husband is also from Clinton. We have decided we don't want to move back to Clinton but are thinking of Maquoketa or in the country outside of Davenport. I have been trying to find info on property tax rates and such for these areas but haven't had any luck. If anyone knows what the rates are for these cities or knows how to find them on the net I would really appreciate it. We would also appreciate any other info that you think someone relocating would need to know, such as job market etc. We haven't visited in many years, so I am sure things have changed. Thanks

I'm sorry I can't answer any of your questions since we also live in FL but are moving back to Iowa also. We were both born and raised there...moved here in 1985 but miss "home" and want to return. Most of my family are still there also. We've been making a trip back almost every year for the past 8 years.....my husband goes hunting and I shop!! The area you're talking about is beautiful especially when the leaves change. We're looking to be close to Waterloo where my family is but outside of small town on an acreage is the place for us!! May I ask why you're considering a move to Iowa?

Generally you can go to the county website and they will have the property tax rate posted. Look under home values or tax appraisers office.

Thanks for the info madison, I will try the county website instead of the cities.

kath2210,
There are really a number of reasons we are considering the move. Honestly it is mostly my husband that wants to go, he is just sick of Florida all around. One reason is the rediculous laws and hoops you have to jump through to start your own business in the state. The major thing right now is the lack of construction work in our area. Our town was booming a year ago, but builders got crazy and bought up all the land and build too many homes, then the city put a stop to all new construction, and now my husband is struggling to find steady work. Plus the house prices are just to high, we miss the scenery, we miss nice people, it's to hot here etc.

Same here....we're both sick of Florida. I wish we could move sooner but have to wait until my husband is vested in his retirement which will be 2-1/2 years ....I vote to just go but he's already put in his years with the state so that would be a waste. I wish he could "transfer" his retirement to the BH County correctional system, then do his 2 years and retire. We're going up in June to check out some areas and then we usually go in November so he can hunt, I hang out with my family. This year, our daughter and her family are going with us in June so her husband can see what Iowa is like. They're looking to move too.

Smile Going Home!!!!!!!!

Im glad I found this web site,My girlfriend and I are moving to SC,for me going home. I have lived in AZ for almost 10 years.I left my husband, finally admitted to myself Im gay, but at that time I couldent go any place ,seeing him being harrased ,he made it hard for me, and comming OUT. So I moved to Mesa Az.I have family here I had some friends but there are so many people, alot of traffic, and only 2 season changes HOT & really F------- HOT.
Well any way what Im to say I missed the 4 seasons , driving down the street waving to a friend, most of all going out ,you can cab it in SC.I cant wait to move back to SC. If anyone is moving to Sioux City Iowa maybe we could help each other out, If I had the money now I would be GONE .Who says you cant go home?

Thanks for reading. LUrbanos63@aol.com

Moving back to Iowa?
If you're searching for a quiet place to live in Iowa City you may want to check out Apartments By Baculis. They are located just off N. Dodge St., close to campus and the malls, but not near the "student frenzy".
