You shouldn't have any problems driving through Iowa in late April. Unless there's an unusually late snow storm the most you'll have to deal with is some rain. Definitely make I-84 part of your trip, the Columbia Gorge is a must-see. I love driving through that area because the views are just incredible. If you've got time stop at Vista House and Multnomah Falls. (FRIENDS of VISTA HOUSE - Crown Point State Park, Corbett, Oregon The Friends of Multnomah Falls | Columbia River Gorge, Oregon) I've never driven the I-29 to I-90 route to Seattle so I can't tell you anything about that. I'd assume there should be some beautiful views on 90 and you should have a good view of the northern side of Mt. Rainier.

I drove through I-80 between Omaha area and Des Moines and have driven it last spring. You should be fine in April. March is an iffy month, but April is more predictable.

The traffic is heavy at times, but mild compared other parts of the country. There is a lot of truck traffic and sometimes the trucks travel in packs of three or four and most go 65-70 mph, but there are other cars that go 75-80 mph. I went 70-75 mph for most of the time and did not have many problems, but I usually try to find a lull in traffic and set my cruise control.

Traffic gets heavier about 25 miles or so before the fringes of Des Moines (Stuart and closer to Des Moines). People tend to drive faster and it is the time where I do not use cruise control.

Iowa is more scenic to drive through along I-80 than Nebraska. Iowa has gently rolling hills and has a few more trees, but a good chunk of Nebraka along I-80 is flat as a ruler. Have a good trip through the Midwest.
