Default Would love to hear your views on Council Bluffs

We may be offered a relocation to Council Bluffs. I've read info about the area, but nothing that tells me much. It is easy to find homes for sale, sales tax rates, etc., but I want to hear from real people. Is Council Bluffs all city or is part of it in a county area also? Is it a safe place to live? Can one move in the surrounding areas and have a short commute to CB? Any info you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Council Bluffs is currently going through a big transition. Many more jobs are moving to Council Bluffs in a variety of industries.

The eastern side of C.B. sits in the Loess Hills and has many nice neighborhoods and acreages. Also, a short commute(5-10 minutes) from Missouri Valley, IA and Glenwood, IA (7-9K people) isn't a bad option either.

C.B. is a safe city for the most part. Just like any other city it has its bad parts.

Home prices are pretty low if compared on a national level and there are many different neighborhoods to choose from.

One more question? How is the weather as far as storms, etc.? I mean severe weather like tornados. Are they a major threat? I can find info on temperatures and average preciptation and one site said the tornado threat is VERY high.

A girl I know that grew up in "Counciltucky" says that it's where the "squirrels are black and the trash is white".

I bet it's actually a decent place though. Just sharing.

Yeah, it has a reputation as "white trashy" but they are doing a good job shedding some of that. I've always loved that quote though. The first time I heard it I laughed my ass off cuz it was so true.

I wouldn't worry about tornadoes. The chances of being hit by a tornado are probably similar getting struck by lightning. The storms get pretty bad just like anywhere else though.

Unless you live in a mobile home court, i.e. trailer park. That was the best line (of many good ones) in Disney's animated "Cars": He was happier than a tornado in a trailer park.

The threat of tornadoes is typically greater in Iowa than it is in states on the coast, but we have a lot fewer earthquakes, wild fires, mud slides and really no hurricanes to speak of We're not part of "tornado alley," which runs south of Iowa, especially Oklahoma. I've lived in Iowa for...mmm... a lot of years. I figure I've ended up in basement or cellar at least once a summer, sometimes twice; I've seen "funnel clouds," which is what tornadoes are called when they are in the air, but I've never seen a tornado. I've seen the damage done by tornadoes three times, most recently in the little town where I grew up. We're pretty matter-of-fact about the whole thing, really.

Just don't stay in a trailer park when there are watches and warnings!
