Yes that story is accurate. there was a huge riot on College Street (where all the bars are) on Northern Iowa's homecoming night back in, i believe, 2000. I was up there, and we paid absolutely no mind to Campus Police, or the Cedar Falls Police. There is no crime in Cedar Falls (which is about 30,000 people). Those poor cops just got lost in the crowd. After about 2 hours the Waterloo Police showed up in force, and i got out of dodge. I guess so did every body else. The news said it was broken up at like 1am. about a half hour after we left. Obviously those upper middle class college kids didnt want anything to do with the "getto hardened" Waterloo police, or the tank they brought with them. I will say, though, i grew up in a pretty rough part of waterloo, and i think the waterloo police are exceptionally patient. If youre not causing a seirous problem, they will pretty much let you go. But if u give em a hard time, they certianly arent afraid to thump ur skull aginst the ground before they throw ya in the trunk of thier car.

That may be what you've heard, but they cannot hold a candle to the Marion PD. They are brutal to everybody; not just blacks.

Well the Waterloo PD has the word "Vigilante" on the side of their cars as well as their uniforms if I'm not mistaken, so they must at least THINK they're bad ass.

I believe it's "Vigilance", not "vigilante" which is a pretty big difference. "Vigilante" would be cool though, having a police department full of Dirty Harry types.
