Question Good area of burlington?

I'm originally from Iowa(but not Burlington), and will be moving back soon. We are considering different homes in the area, and would like to know if anyone knows about the area around Polk Street? We have a young family too, and if anyone knows how the schools are here that would be great.
Thanks so much!

Default Awsome Area!

Polk street would be a great location. The houses on Polk have personality. It is a quiet neighborhood on the bluffs minutes from downtown. There is a gorgeous view of downtown & the Mississippi River. Your children would probably attend Grimes Elementary & James Madison Middle Schools. Grimes Elementary was recently rebuilt(2006). The school system in Burlington is one of the finest, although very rigorous(I graduated in 2005). There is also Great River Christian Academy & Notre Dame JR/SR School...Both Private. The downside to living on Polk are the Trains & Distance. Although you cant avoid the trains wherever you are in Burlington, Polk St is extreamly close to them. The train tracks lie just below the bluffs...40 some trains go through Burlington daily (2 an hour). Also, you would be farther from the busier commercial area(7-10 minutes)...There is a downtown Hy-Vee & Toms Market & Meats. If you don't want to live near the trains there are some newly built sub divisions off of Mason Rd. and Sunnyside Ave.

When you get to B-town, drive around and you'll understand what I am trying to say. Each neighborhood has its own characteristics, granted it's been a little more than a decade since I lived there. Talk to a real estate agent about these areas:
1. South Hill-- near Crappo Park(pronounced craypo gosh it's fun hearing..... never mind) This neighborhood has a mix of homes from all generations and its own distinct community. In other words, the neighbors really look out for each other like in a small town.
2. North Hill-- as bita023 mentioned, this neighborhood stretches along Sunnyside Ave. Mix of homes, but mostly large homes of significant wealth (in their time) built in the 1960s. North Hill is better located to the current shopping districts on US61 and accessible to West Burlington via Mount Pleasant Road.

Thanks for the memories,
disneyrecords

Look for something near Sunnyside school. The elementary school (Sunnyside) is wonderful and they're building a new middle school which should be finished next week.

I don't know what price range you're looking for but I happen to be selling/renting one near the site of the new middle school.

Call me if you're interested - Sivon 618-407-7825
