4 Seasons, nice spring, hot/humid summer, nice fall, brutal winter.
You could get by in a car, I did fine in my Honda when I had it, but I switched to AWD. A lot of people choose to drive SUVs or trucks in IA.
As for apts in Ft. Dodge, I know nothing about the town so I can't help you there.

Hi, why do you "need" a truck in Fort Dodge, IA? I've lived in Minnesota all my life and get by
fine with a car.

Totally agree. Except for the last two years I have lived my entire life in the midwest, incldung North Dakota. I have never had the need for a truck or even an SUV. Any decent front wheel drive will do. If you are a rancher, farmer, or work in a field that requires you to haul lots of stuff (construction) I really don't see the need for anyone to buy a truck.

Me neither, but then I think it is more of a "cultural" need in the rural Midwest.

Be very cautious about buying or renting in Fort Dodge itself; stay on the north side of town; the south and west sides (anything south of Central I'd say) are sometimes called Little Chicago because of the crime, drugs, and violence; I was a counselor there, we had murders on the south side a LOT, and the property values are lower for a reason, despite there being some beautiful older homes.

Can I get a link about all these murders going on in Fort Dodge?
I can only find 5 in the past 10 years, which is a roughly 2 per 100,000.

Driving a 4 wheel drive, truck or SUV, has nothing to do with the "culture" here in or around Ft. Dodge, Iowa. It has to do with the amount of snow and ice, we get, each winter, and the **** poor job, the local cities do, of clearing aforementioned snow and ice. By the way, i live in Webster City and i am about 18 miles from Ft. Dodge, and I go there to shop a few times a month. They also suck at snow/ice removal. So, there you go, you can survive in small town Iowa, without a truck or an SUV, but i guarantee you, I would much rather have my big SUV, gas guzzler, over a regular car anyday around here in the winter.
