I dunno, most of our dirt is black too. I think they just needed dirt with a lot of clay in it to make a better floodwall.

Honestly, I've been wondering where they just came up with dozens of dump truck loads of clay-filled dirt.

These pictures look really funky when I click on them. Anyone know why? Maybe they are too big?

I see - well when I lived in Lee Co. the dirt was all clay, so I just assumed it was the same in the Davenport area.

Missncr- Your pictures are very nice

*Warning* Graphic!

I believe this is a Bull Snake (obviously upside down) - I passed it on a country road yesterday and turned around to take a pic on the motorola! I had a shot closer up but it came out blurry because I didn't want to end up like the snake did in the middle of the road!

Someone please correct me if they actually know what type of snake this is. Just thought it would be an interesting pic of Iowa wildlife.

I don't know anything about Bull Snakes, but here are some pictures I took around downtown Iowa City recently.

The Plaza Towers

Capitol Street looking north toward Old Capitol. The Seamans Center is on the left, and Old Capitol Town Center on the right.

And while I was going downtown, I spotted this on a bike on the Ped Mall. Happy Bike to Work Week everyone!

I find that people in CA have a stereotype of Iowa too...another thing, they mix Iowa up with Ohio, and I actually heard a teacher refer to Iowa as Ioway and another one tell my granddaughter that instead of pronouncing Des Moines with a silent s at the end of Des and Moines, that it was okay to pronounce it dez moineez. I straightened her out right away on that one.
