Default High-Paying Jobs??

Son-in-law says he's been offered a tile/carpet layer position that pays $22-27hr. in DM...anyone there putting flooring down for that kind of money?

I guess the only way I could see the wage for carpet laying being that high would be in an independant contractor type set-up - where you would have to provide your own tools, transportation, insurance, etc.

I'd believe that a carpet/tile man makes that much if he has some experience and becomes a contractor through a reputable place, easily. I think most of them do work as contractors. I know if you purchase carpet/tile and installation through most of the major flooring places around here, they set you up with one of their contractors.

Thanks folks...it's non-union, with a company that is a general contractor in DSM, This contractor is branching into flooring (instead of subcontracting it out) and they supposedly need 100 warm bodies for startup...I told my son-in-law, "If it's bad here (florida) I seriously doubt they're building in the dead of winter if freekin DSM!"
The icing is that they are paying full medical and funding 401ks...Guess he never heard the Murphy Law.
Thanks again...I'm all ears

You'd be surprised at what they can build in winter in Iowa. The market isn't as bad as the Florida market.

I am in the flooring industry and yes, you can make that kind of money in Des Moines. We are subs but I know that kind of money is being made. So I don't think he is lying to you.
