Hi! My husband has just accepted a job from Buckeye Partners in Bettendorf so after looking at some housing and renting options. We will not be living in Bettendorf. Can anyone recommend some awesome suburbs or smaller towns around that area. We both come from small towns and prefer that. We have 2 boys and 2 dogs . So a good school is a must and we do prefer the Iowa side! This is a major change after being in military life mode. We are nervous but excited!

You did not mention your price range, but you might want to look at Le Claire. Home of Antique Archaeology (American Pickers TV show). I cannot speak to their schools, but the town itself really has that small town feel, yet it's still close to Bettendorf with easy access via I-80 and US-67.

Le Claire is a good choice. They are in the Pleasant Valley school district, which is highly regarded for quality education. Another option is Eldridge, where North Scott schools are located. North Scott also has a great reputation.

Le Claire is a little further out from the main business/retail areas of the Quad Cities, but it does have a really vibrant local business scene of its own. Eldridge is closer to the heart of the QC. It does have a few basic businesses, but lacks the charming downtown area Le Claire has built over the years.

I'd probably choose Eldridge because it has quicker access to the bustling sections of the Quad Cities. You can go from Eldridge to Northpark Mall in under 10 minutes. A trip from LeClaire to the same spot will take longer.

Le Claire is in the PV school district which seems to have a better rep than Bettendorf schools now. The only issue is much of Le Claire is expensive now and homes under 200k are gone fast.

I agree that Eldridge is a good option. It's bigger than Le Claire so it has more housing options. Long Grove and Park View are also small towns near Eldridge that are about 20 minutes from Bettendorf. DeWitt is farther away but I know a few people who live there and like it. They have a nice little downtown area.
