Just for your own piece of mind, no one is "bashing you" over not visiting every single town and city in the US to compare it to Des Moines. When you make comments about how everyone in a city is basically uncultured and never leaves city limits (ps, still going to Buenos Aires this summer) without really having anything to back it up, you should expect some fall-out.
If you want to discuss something about the Des Moines area in this thread, by all means bring it up. If not, we'll consider this tete e tete over.

I wonder if the city of Des Moines has ever though about signing with a company that will make snow globes with the Des Moines skyline in it!

Haha, probably not because "it's no Lower Manhattan", but next time I'm at the airport or something, I'll definitely check for you.
I know they've got diy snowglobes where you can put whatever you want in them. Maybe you should call China and see if they can make you some little plastic Des Moines skylines and ask if they can recommend a good snowglobe manufacturer, slip them some bucks and you're in business!
Oh look, I found you a manufacturer: Shenzhen Legaoer Electronic Sicence (yes, spelled like that) & Technology Co, Ltd. Hit 'em up and tell them you need a few thousand of them, pronto. I'll even help you hawk 'em off at the Farmer's Market or maybe you can call them "meth globes" to enhance the kitsch factor, thus enhancing the profit factor. The world is yours!
Shenzhen Legaoer Electronic Sicence & Technology Co., Ltd
Edit: I can't find a good union made in the USA snowglobe manufacturer

I don't think we'll lose too much sleep over someone from a very dull place not wanting to move here. We seem to be liked by top business and relocation magazines, and we gain about 10K-15K new residents every year. Obviously a lot of ppl think it is worthwhile to move here.
So, maybe we don't have all the college things to do, but I would put DM "fun" up against CR-Marion "fun" any day.

Orrr............. you can build massive sculptures of Des Moines' skyline all over the country. It would be the ultimate propaganda!!! Then there is always the Lego industry, have them make lego 801 grands or Ruans, maybe even make an entire Des Moines skyline set. Soon Des Moines will be a huge tourist destination, they will make thousands of movies, remake King Kong, except it would be climbing the 801 Grand, wouldn't be the longest climb but still, infact, you could have the Empire state building moved to Des Moines for the movie, then you could have every single movie ever made in New York re made in Des Moines. Then to attract even more people, you make the rest of Iowa a lake so you can have beachfront properties, then you move the equator so Des Moines will be a year round destination. Perfect!

have them make lego 801 grand

I realize the entire quote was made in jest, but thought I'd point out this has already been done. I'm not sure where it is located, but there already is a good sized model of 801 Grand made out of Lego's. It's been at the Iowa State Fair in the past. I don't know where it resides normally.

I looking into moving to DesMoines. I currently live in mid-southern rural Missouri. Is there much difference? I would like a bigger city to live in for employment, but not the fear of crime and such for raising my children. Also, how is the church situation there? I'm looking to getting involved witha good church, leaving a good one here if/when I move. I attend and A/G. Thanks for any help. So far I've been reading some good posts.
