Prairie City is the fastest growing city in Jasper County and is only 20-25 minutes from downtown. Often overlooked, but property taxes are close to 1/2 of what people pay in Polk and Dallas counties. Also, the sun is at your back on the way to DM in the morning and on the way home at night. Traffic also isn't as bad.

I have been living and working overseas for over 20 years as an international educator. Recently I began a job search so as to return to Iowa. I was interested in small town living after having grown up in Granger, Iowa. I found this site in my research into Iowa towns and cities. I assume lots has changed. I have good prospects for work in small towns like Eldora, Brooklyn and Colfax. Any comments by readers about the pros and cons of these communities now-a-days.
