You need to check out Council Bluffs. There is a lot going on there. I work in west Omaha and see just as many rednecks there as I do in CB.

The first one is going for $350K (for an historic home with 15 ft ceilings), the second $250K.

Well, driving around and looking at it is different from actually living there. A place can look nice on the outside and still be rotten on the inside. I'm not saying that CB is rotten. It's just that I haven't heard anything particularly good about it yet -- except for maybe the Google thing.

Exactly what is Google doing there -- anyone know?

Well, a lot of people seem to have an axe to grind against certain places (or maybe just a few people in those places) and so they spew exagerations, half-truths and outright lies. I can think of a few of those posters off the top of my head.

I don't know much about Council Bluffs, honestly. I think the majority of our forum's experience comes from eastern and central Iowa. Have you tried floating this on the Omaha forum? I'd be interested in knowing what they think.

Google is building a $600 million data center (server farm) in Council Bluffs that should hire around 200 people when it gets rolling next year. Google Council Bluffs Data Center

I agree, I don't have any experience with that side of the state but I think there is good and bad in every city. I have been to Omaha more than once and there are some pretty shady area's of that town too.

If you have kids, check out schools. Bottom line, if you like the houses it is worth checking out more. I agree checking on the Omaha board would be worthwhile. I love IA, have lived out of state and came back.

Every town has good and bad points and what you read on this forum is a lot of opinion not necessarily fact. Be leery of someone constantly promoting town they live in, usually they have a hidden agenda as was discovered with a frequent poster on this forum.

Before moving to any area, be sure and thoroughly research everything from jobs, crime, schools ETC.

Jasper
