Question Possibly Moving to Newton, Iowa -- any info?

Hey everyone, I'm a little new to this, and I'm just curious as to what people have to say about Newton?? My boyfriend and I are looking to move there at the end of the summer (right around September). He works construction and his company is out of Newton and we're tired of the commute from New Virginia! (little town south of Des Moines and Indianola). Any information any of you can give me/us on Newton... it would be awesome! I'm wanting to have an in-home daycare, any thoughts on how well it would go? How are the daycares in town already? Are they nice, have lots of openings, always full? And also, renting or buying housing, what are the prices like? Is it a good time for buying a house?

Anyways... any information you can give me would be great!

I grew up in Newton and my folks still live there. I always thought that Newton was a pretty decent town with good schools. As for an in-home business, you should remember that Maytag recently closed down and put a lot of people out of work. That may effect you customer base.

Well, thanks for the info, but I definatly hope that the Maytag thing doesn't effect daycare all that much! It's very possibly, but I'm hoping people are still lookin'!

Default lovely town

i grew up here, moved away for a few years and came back. i think it's a great town to raise a family. local jobs may be hard to come by, but there are plenty of jobs outside and you can always carpool or vanpool.

I've been reading about the drive in there on HeyIowa.com

Any place with a drive in can't be half-bad.
