Default Bathtub Refinishing?? (Coralville)

I am looking to get my fiberglass bathtub refinished (and change color in the process). Does anyone have any recommendations? So far, I've been quoted anything from $600 to $850. The prices seem a little high; I know people who had it professionally done for under $500 in other parts of the country.

Unless planning to sell property, why not paint something creative yourself? Marine fiberglass paints are few in color range (white, pale and dark blue) but if enough people wanted to "personalize" their bathroom (i.e, paint a whale or a shark that encompasses all 3 sides of wall unit), no doubt more colors might become available with time.

thanks, DIY is an option, but I would rather have it done professionally. I've been researching this online and apparently a lot of people have problems with DIY refinishing starting to peel within months. besides, I don't think I would trust myself with an HVLP sprayer.

I am definitely not looking for anything creative....just plain old boring white.

thanks, but I was looking for personal experiences.

I did actually contact surface specialists (miracle method does not exist in the CR area), among a few other companies, and was not really impressed with their pricing. you would think that the same service should not cost 50% more in Iowa than in California.
