My husband may have the possibility of transferring nearby. I'm wanting to get general opinions on the areas of Cedar Falls, Waterloo and the surrounding areas within an hour drive maybe.

I live there. An hours drive will get you to any number of corn or soybean fields or hog farms. Cedar Rapids is a little over an hour and about as exciting. Don't move here expecting thrills. Or good food.
The Cedar Valley, as it's known, has a population of about 100,000. Waterloo is more diverse than Cedar Falls. Not much shopping, the malls are curling up and dying.
Today, April 6th, the wind chill is 0. Snow is expected Sunday. It ain't April in Paris.
That said, overall there are some great folks here and life's pretty easy if you don't expect much.

Thank you. Sounds pretty much a step up from where we would be coming from lol. We are in rural Western IL. About 4 hours away so only difference is we have no malls at all and have to drive an hour to get to one or any good food.

You'll probably love it, then. It's an easy drive up Avenue Of The Saints, you should come look. Cedar Falls downtown Main Street is a gem.
