I don't really like Indianola. It's a very nice town, dont get me wrong. It's just too small and too far away from the big city.

I would recommend the western suburbs.

I would recommend the western suburbs.

I think Indianola's location is one of it's strong points. It's about 15 miles away from Des Moines and they pride themselves on "not being a suburb".

Indianola is kind of cool. Most of it is pretty nice, they've got most of the things you need in your day to day life and a decent small business circuit. The town square is pretty nice and there's a few decent restaurants there (One Stop rules, btw. I need to get down there soon for it). They've got some coffee shops, a few bars and Simpson College.

If you're looking for a smaller town, Indianola might be a good place to check out. It's close enough to Des Moines, but far enough away to have a bit of it's own character. I don't know, I kind of like the area South of Des Moines (Carlisle, Norwalk, Indianola).

El Rhino from the way you describe it, I want to live there. lol. I love the small towns in Iowa ... and while I think the Western Suburbs are a great place to live, etc. I'm not sure they would be for everyone.
