I had heard it- my own father used it (some distant Norwegian blood), but was never sure of what it meant.

You know you're in Iowa when ... nobody answers directly, everybody talks about something else.

Funny list.

I was born in Iowa, moved to SD in 76. Few years ago, was visiting my brother in my dad's hometown. Ran out of cash and needed to cash a check. Walked into the bank (mind you the town's probably 6 blocks square) and they didn't want to cash an out of state check for me, UNTIL I told them that my brother and uncle both banked there. Gave them my maiden name and problem solved. Small towns are fabulous.

Also, my mom uses the term "Iwainian" anyone ever heard this one??

Mom was born and raised in Mason City, went to Buddy Holly's last concert in Clear Lake.
