Also Whitey's Ice Cream ... based out of the Quad Cities. (I think it's possible to ship with dry ice too...)

Maid rite sandwhiches. I've tried to replicate the meat at home, and it's just not the same.

There's a store in Valley Junction in West Des Moines that sells only Iowa products. I can't recall the name, but that would be good place to check out.

AE cottage cheese...friend carries a cooler of it to AZ every year when she visits. There's nothing like it.

It is possible to ship meat and sweet corn by mail with dry ice. I know of someone who ships it by Express Mail. I sent some frozen meat packed in dry ice and styrofoam cooler and then a box to my sister in Colorado by Priority Mail and when it arrived there was still dry ice left.

I think the store in Valley Junction is called the Iowa Store. They do carry some food items but most of the stuff is more touristy/crafty.

I would send Amana Cheese and beef sticks. There are alot of great local wineries but if you are sending alcohol be sure to declare it on the outside box.

I wonder if a smoked pork butt would stay fresh in a cardboard box...

I can't think of a whole lot of "good" food that could be mailed in a box. Maybe some pickled Amana Ham and sweet Sauerkraut.

Gotta second the motion for A-E cottage cheese, but it's not quite as good as it once was since they went to all-plastic cartons. It's still probably the best around.

Millstream beer
Iowa chops

*getting hungry*
