195,542 case and 111,300 recovered! That is a little over a 56% recovery rate (the US, overall, is almost 70%).

Iowa's population is about 5,148,714 with only 2,066 deaths, which is under 0.05%. So, why are we panicking over those stats?
Because a disease that didn’t exist last year is now the third leading cause of death in Iowa (after heart disease and cancer), even with mitigation efforts. Those are 2066 people that had families and loved ones, and those numbers are speeding up. Just because many people have recovered doesn’t mean there aren’t lasting effects for them moving forward. Not to mention the thousands of Iowans who have been hospitalized and have thousands of dollars in medical debt now. And where did you get that estimate for Iowa’s population? It’s only 3 million.

You've padded the population number by roughly 2 million (or for context, more people than the entire state of Nebrasksa).

Sorry but, as Coldailment correctly noted earlirr, your thrust is partially weakened by a major miscalculation.
Iowa's current population is estimated to be near 3,155,000 & not 5,148,000 as you wrote.

Beyond that aspect, you apparently are not paying attention to what the people running hospitals and health care systems in the state are saying about their facilities and ICU beds, etc. and how their ability to care for the critically ill and those who suffer long term symptoms is now impacted and also will be affected down the road.

I don't understand why Iowans want to watch thousands of their family and friends die unnecessarily while pushing healthcare workers to a physical and psychological breakdown.

I have friends and family in Iowa. Most think it's overblown, and are planning big Christmas get togethers.

Then again, to put this into context. In the past, one relative tried (unsuccessfully) to cure cancer by eating lots of broccoli. Another one used an alternative medical provider of sorts for decades, and nearly died because of heart valve calcification that could have easily been diagnosed with a routine exam using only a stethoscope. There are more stories, but that should be enough to paint the picture.

They are stubborn, and believe there are conspiracies everywhere... in politics, medicine, the financial markets, etc.
