tptvosox, I sent you a direct message w/ my email address.

Wow, that is a huge dip in salary for a teacher! It sounds like you were making right around where I am at now when you were in NY. So it is encouraging that I may actually be able to make MORE in Des Moines, without having to pay the huge rent I do here in NJ. I would not have to pay for daycare as my daughter is almost 17, so I don't have to worry about that. I am not 100% positive that my daughter would come with me anyway. It may just be me and my dog =)
Thanks again for all your input. Feel free to email me at my personal address with any info on contacts in the industry you may have!

Default Iowa cost of living

Cost of living comparison - Consider Iowa this web-site gives you a cost of living estimator for iowa. It is very helpful. Also you can go to Iow Workforce development IWIN Home to find salary information in your field.

Good luck! Iowa is a great place to call home!

You should consider Council Bluffs, IA it borders Omaha Nebraska (which has a stronger economy than Des Moines) and the rents are cheaper (1 bedroom 450 - 500, 2 bedrooms about 500-600)!

Coming from an Omaha Native, this almost appears thread jackingish. He wants to move to Des Moines, which also has a very powerful economy, so let him. And what happened to your hatred of Omaha? Plus the rents are cheaper in CB for a reason.

If I do move to Iowa it will definitely be Des Moines. Reason is, I have friends that live there, and I've been out to visit about 4-5 times already and totally love DM. I am a HUGE music lover (couldn't tell from the name could ya? ) and love the music scene there.
Reason for my post was that none of my friends out there are in the same line of work as me, so they didn't know the salaries or contact information.
Thanks for everyone's input (got some excellent contact info from tptvosox)..it sure has helped!

Good luck in your search, you'll really like Des Moines, plus we get a ton of concerts in Omaha so you could always drive here
