maybe some clarifcation on what you're asking? What do you mean by "what's the deal with Court Ave"? Tell us what you know, what you don't know, and what you want to know and we'll fill in the blanks for you.

Hello, another person answered my question about court ave.
I was referring to "my own personal thread" that I started a couple a days ago concerning Mobile/Manufactured Homes communities in Des Moines. And for the record, I know nothing of Des Moines except that it is the closest thing to a "real live city" that Iowa has and I'm kinda interested in the job market, good/bad locations to live, raise a family, go to church (pentecostal), and just enjoy life, without unneccessary headaches (dope dealers, druggies, gangs, intrusive white supremacists, etc.)
I hope I made that clear as mud. A lot of the aforementioned concerns I have been able to gleen some info from just browsing; so no need to repeat everything. Just mainly concerned with "manufactured" housing communities, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Thanx
"D"

Unlike in southern states, manufacture housing communities are pretty rare in Iowa. They definately have a stigma attached to them as kind of "low rent" but maybe you are OK with that.

I was not aware that they had a "definite stigma" attached to them.
But as far as what I am "OK" with, lets just leave the assumptions aside...mmmkay!
(And the classification of an area/locale being low rent is subjective).
Because I tend not to "judge" I lean towards M.H. being "neighborhoods or communities" that have or have had their share of the good, the bad and the ugly.

A lot of the cleaner mobile home communities are age restricted and are for seniors (until they move down south for the winter). Otherwise, I think there's a pretty big mobile home park in Grimes on Highway 141 that looks decent, for now.

South Side in my opinion doesn't have a lot to offer, and is far enough from the artsy places that you will need a car. Unfortunately the public transit system isn't the greatest.

Hope you find a great place. I would encourage the Ingersoll area, Sherman Hill and East Village, as others have. I live in the Ingersoll area, and Sherman Hill is just a 'stones throw away'. I love the area that I live, and my apartment has a BEAUTIFUL view of the skyline. Also, I haven't been to East Village much, but if you want artsy, that seems to be the place to be.

Hope you enjoy it here. I'm thinking if you're moving from San Diego, you would be accustomed to higher rent, so Des Moines will be a breath of fresh air for your checkbook.

Welcome!
