You're gonna love it here! When you are in North Cedar Rapids you can enjoy the strong odor of Quaker Oats and in the South you get the overwhelming stench of ADM corn sweeteners plant and the repulsive fishy smell of the river everywhere else. And its all free! Oh, and we get at least 2 big name concerts a year and we recently got a Starbucks drive-thru.

LOL wtf? None of that is true and its especially not true of NE CR or the Marion/Hiawatha area that we are talking about.

Cedar Rapids-I tried
I tried hard to move to Cedar Rapids. My sister moved there from Columbus GA years ago and loves it. She tried to get me into Oak Hill Manor, but something went wrong, I had an apartment, but the manger quit or got fired or something. After getting rid of everything I owned, I called up there and found I had no apartment. They tried to help and were very apologetic about the mix up. No matter, my twin is still trying to get me up there. She says there is no comparison of Columbus GA and Cedar Rapids IA. She said she will never, ever come back to Columbus. I can't blame her. No place is perfect, but after an adjustment from a southerner to a northerner, she had no problems. They have been very, very kind to my sister. She helps with what she can and the people there have helped her a lot. Cedar Rapids may have had that flood, but the people that make it a good place are still there for the most part, and that has made all the difference with my sister.

Type of neighborhood?
What type of neighborhood are you looking for? The NE side is nice, family friendly... - do schools matter to you? Kennedy HS is, IMHO, the best HS in CR though I know people who've attended each of them many years ago and all had positive experiences. Also Xavier is in that neck of the woods. For me, on that side of town, the farther from 380 you get (nearer to Edgewood) the better - it's pretty and quiet and close to everything you need.
Marion is great also - I think recently rated one of the top small towns in the country. The newer neighborhoods in Marion are between 100 and 13 and north of 10th up 13. The older parts of town are more toward CR, it just depends on which charm you're looking for. I prefer it to Hiawatha, which sometimes seems like a mixed bag of tricks.
SW side in CR is nice too though - over in the Prarie district, but you have Kirkwood over there and a lot of "residential" students. Just something to be aware of.
Robins is part new development part old, small (very small) Iowa town. 20 minutes in winter driving, maximum. Swisher is beautiful but not my cup of tea personally. North Liberty is growing always, and is close to Iowa City/Coralville and Cedar Rapids, so it makes for a nice location. NL is in the Iowa City school district OR in the Amana's district, again if that's important for you.

Also Moving Back
Hi Newbie,
My family is moving back to Cedar Rapids after 3 years in Chicagoland... the area is coming back nicely and, if anything, will rebound higher than it was before.
