The Fair Is Around The Corner
...so let's discuss it.
My must-eat foods:
Corndogs. At least one footlong.
Mini-donuts.
lamb kebob
strawberry ice cream from the place the butter cow is in. Probably the best bargain at the fair.
Dutch spiced beef sandwich
Those spiraled potato thingies with ranch dressing.
funnel cake
pork chop on a stick.
All of these foods are usually split between a couple people, it's not like I'm eating ALL of this.

I'm always good for a Jennie's Grinder, a gyro, a lemonade, and a few beers at the Bud Tent. I usually raid the samples in the Ag building, too.
My "absolutely can't miss" things are the Varied Industries building, the animal barns, the Agriculture building, and the Natural Resources building. And major people watching.
Remember when the Law Enforcement building used to show extremely graphic photos of murder and burn victims? And real cars from accidents where people had died? When I was a kid, that was always a highlight (what a morbid little kid I was...). You know, back when all the places that are now my "absolutely can't miss" places were boring !!!
Remember when Floppy did his show from the fair? And the Bill Riley Talent Sprouts actually had Bill Riley host? And you didn't feel like you need a shower immediately after you walked through the Midway? And the corn dogs came on wooden sticks?

Have you seen the Floppy-related thread here? I forgot exactly what it's called, but there's some good Floppy discussion.
The Midway is the lowest on my fair-going priorities. I might walk through it once, but that's about it.

To be honest, I haven't even walked through it for maybe the last five years - maybe even longer. Expensive, dirty, waste of time.
I have seen the Floppy thread - it rocks! Did anyone ever come up with the name of the store that sold the Floppy shirts? That would be a good shirt to wear to the fair!

I want to say it's Panorama Casual, right next to ZZZ Records on Locust. It's somewhere in the "East Village" area.

Have they finished that hotel right there on 30th?? Honestly I think putting a hotel in that location was a horrible idea. Outside of the State Fair, who's gonna stay there? Crack heads and hookers maybe.

The hotel has been finished for a year. The main purpose of the hotel is to serve the events that occur at the fairgrounds throughout the year.

Are they having a butter sculpture in addition to the butter cow this year? (Think it was Harry Potter last year maybe?)

Yes....definately can't leave without the mini donuts. I'd add the smoke turkey leg but you've got to get it from the guy(s) that just have the smoker setup (not one of the regular food vendor type trailers).
How can you not walk through the midway?!?!?! No one said you had to spend any money there. Two reason you must walk through at least once a year:
* you feel better about yourself and your job as you check out the carney rats working the games and the rides
* you have to walk through the midway to get to the dunk tank to observe the clown guy (I always forget his name) that hurls criticisms at those trying to dunk him. I swear you need to have a healthy ego to take him on! The guy can be down right mean and rude!!
