I am not sure what you mean by records, but if you are looking to rent a house, the State of Iowa has what is called an abstract that gives the history of the property, and is generally about 6inches thick! I would google Iowa Abstract or something of that nature. I am by no means a real estate expert, so feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
