If you were offered a job in either town which would you choose and why?
I thought this would be a good discussion since both cities are about the same size, but differ a lot otherwise. |

Des Moines, big time.

I admire the history, lore of the Mississippi River and proxmity to other cities like Dubuque, Chicago and Iowa City. Otherwise, it's Des Moines for everything else except maybe terrain.
The Quad Cities is underrated for it's community attractions, which is something I learned while on forums like these. Due to the Quad Cities' economic history, it's far too stodgy of a place for me. |

Des Moines. The QC really has nothing going for it.

You're just trying to bait us in a QC vs DM flame war ZZ. Not falling for it.
The QC posters have definitely improved my view of their area, and they can be proud of how it has improved in recent years. QC & DM were about the same size back in the mid 80's, but even though DM is quite a bit bigger now, the QC's do have some things that surpass DM. |

Marshalltown should be on this list, as it is the most superior city in the world!
Someone lock this now before it gets out of hand! |

Obviously I completely disagree with this. Aside from my feeling that the QC has a ton going for it, there aren't many cities in the Midwest that don't have SOMETHING going for them.

I'm sure your "in-depth" analysis will come as a shock to all those major entities (Alcoa, John Deere, United States Department of Defense, Modern Woodmen, etc.) who have invested hundreds of millions in the Quad City area and its people for decades.
Nobody will dispute the QC area took some hard knocks economically and hasn't experienced the raging population growth of Des Moines. However, when it comes to cultural amenities and overall quality of life, the Quad Cities is much closer to Des Moines than it is to "nothing." |

You're right on with that. I think the Omaha-Des Moines Flame War started dying off, so somebody who was really bored needed to start another.

Somebody who is still obviously smarting from Calgary's decision to move their AAA hockey affiliate from Omaha to the Quad Cities.
