I'm looking for an easy to find place to meet up with someone in Des Moines. Neither of us are familiar with the area. We are transporting dogs for a rescue -- they will be coming in on I-80 heading West into Des Moines and I will be coming down from 35 heading South into Des Moines. We just need somewhere easy to spot/find where we can park, transfer dogs from one car to another, then take off again and go our seperate ways. A parking lot or anything would work. Any suggestions?
Thanks. |

LOL - Does anyone ever go to Des Moines besides driving through it on I-70?
Sorry, no offense to Iowans. Hey - at least you have a famous Olympian now! |

Well if they were travelling on I-70 they would never find Des Moines, because it is nowhere near there.
Bosselmans Truck Stop in Altoona would be a great location for both of you to stop. The address is 3231 Adventureland Drive, Altoona, Iowa 50009. |

I've never really been to Des Moines before, except driving through on I-80 (not 70 - my ignorance). But when passing through such towns, I've often felt bad for just blowing by on the freeway. They're probably worth a more detailed visit, with some cool stuff that you never hear about unless you live there. Is there a big 'Home of Shawn Johnson' sign at the edge of town yet? |

No, actually it's not. I love Des Moines, only because I was born and raised there. If I had never been there, there would be no reason for going there. Don't feel bad, it's a blow by town.

I find that when I'm going from here to there every town in between is a blow-by town... |

That's just it. Towns like Des Moines are never a destination - just a pit stop, at best - unless you happen to be from there.

I completely disagree. DSM has a lot going for it, and it seems to be accelerating its progress all the time. I've made several trips to visit the city in the last few years, and I'm not from there and I don't have family there. When a city of 200,000 has a taller building than Phoenix does, it has to be doing something right.
