Default U of Iowa question

Does anyone know if I can get a tuition break due to my uncle being a U of Iowa alumnus. I would like to make a change from where I'm living now but out of state tuition is insane.

No. What some people do to get around the out of state tuition is live in Iowa ans be a part time student taking like 1 class. Then once they lived there for 2 years, they can claim in state residency.

Actually I think becoming a resident only takes one year.

You won't get any tution discounts because your uncle is an alumni.

Becoming a IA resident is a one year process. However, you cannot be enrolled at a college or university full-time within that year.

Every state's very similar on out-of-state tuition. No sense in residents of a state having their taxpayer dollars subsidize the education of people from other states.

It's not uncommon for neighboring states to offer each others residents reciprocity when it comes to tuition at colleges and universites. For instance, residents of Minnesota and Wisconsin can go to schools in either state and pay the resident rate.

However, Iowa has no reciprical agreements in this sense with any of it's neighboring states.
