I have tried everywhere else I can think of (I am a moderator at a cooking forum), but I cannot find a recipe my husband wants. He was born and raised in Ottumwa. His mom used to make Chocolate Rice, but she did not give the recipe to him or any of his siblings. He said she used cocoa, and she put walnuts in it. The closest he has come to replicating it (and it wasn't very close) was mixing chocolate pudding into rice. I will start experimenting with various rice pudding recipes, but in the meantime, I hope someone here might be able to help.

I wonder if there are any recipe books put out by local churches or towns that might have the recipe in them. Especially if it was a regional dish or a ethnic dish. Just a thought. I don't have any cookbooks from that area or I would try to find it for you. Anyone out there who can help??
Have you checked old rice pamplets/booklets? |

Hi,
I'm not from Iowa, but I love the recipe site below and found this chocolate rice recipe. Maybe you could substitute walnuts for the raisins? Hope it helps... Chocolate Rice Pudding - Allrecipes |

Thank you for your replies. I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier (I see you responded rather quickly), but I just got the notification that there were responses.
I have checked every site I could find, and every book I could find that had desserts. I think I may have finally found something close in an old chocolate and cocoa cookbook we bought off of ebay. Thanks again! Barbara |
