Windy Town of Ankeny ?
We are new here in Ankeny, Iowa from out of State. Just wondering, is Ankeny always very windy ? Seems to me that it's been windy most days here. We do live across from an open field so I know some of the wind comes from the open area but does it have a history of being a 'windy state' ?

Fall in Iowa is windy! It's been like that for as long as I can remember. This is the edge of the prairie and Great Plains you know.
If you live in one of those far North Ankeny subdivisions, there's not much to block the wind yet.

Plant lots of trees on your lot to act as a windbreak.
I would suggest pines and spruces.

I think the reasons airmasses move so quickly through Iowa is because nothing stops the wind at all...

The old saying goes "There's nothing between here and the North Pole except some barbed wire fences"

Thanks for all the replies I originally come from Winnipeg Canada, so I know how cold winters can be. Prairie weather is very windy, I will plant some pines next year since they are my favorite tree
