Default $1.97 gas in Des Moines

I still can't believe we are seeing gas under $2. I thought I'd never see that again, although I believe higher gas prices are good for our environment.

People are changing their habits, which is great. I'm much more concientious about how much driving I do. I don't drive to Super Target to get groceries, instead I go to my local grocery stores (Dahl's and Gateway Market). We hardly ever drive out to WDM to eat, instead frequenting the restaurants in the Ingersoll-Drake-Downtown areas. I haven't gone 75 on I-235 in months.

Have others done the same (regardless of where you live)?

Now if food prices would come back down, we would be on our way back to "normal".

I definitely found myself cutting back in uneccessary trips but I haven't given up the lead foot yet.

$2.39 was the lowest I saw today in Grand Rapids Michigan. You guys are kinda lucky there. But I gotta agree with you, too cheap gas is NOT good for a whole lot of things. There's less incentive to produce energy-efficient transportation. I think the smart people will still think ahead and buy cars that suck less fuel.. I'll remember $4.50 gas for a LOOOOONG time.

It's awfully supicious that the prices took a big time dump, right before the election. This happened in 2006 as well.
If McCain gets elected, prices are doing to be 3.50 nationwide or higher right before he takes office.
Obama, the same thing could happen, but it's not nearly as likely.
