When was there a theater besides Southridge 12? There where two slides?
I only moved to Des Moines a couple of years ago, and I love Southridge. I never new there was so much history behind it!

No, it was inside. I believe it was near where Shoe Carnival is now, but I could be wrong. It is that big upside down "L", wherever it is. I can kind of picture it, but I wasn't any older than five when the thing was around.
The theater used to be attached to the mall. If you were to head towards Sears and hang a right, that's where it was at. I'm not sure what they do with it now. Around 2000-ish the theater was a Christian rock venue called Frank's House of Rock.

I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a hallway that led to the theater, but it is over by where Finish Line is. There used to be a restaurant called Baker's Cafeteria across the way which was very popular amongst the senior citizens.

I'm pretty curious...What exactly do you "love" about Southridge?

I could be wrong, but I think when Sears expanded several years ago, it took over the old movie theater spot. I can't recall for sure.

There used to be a Bishops down by Sears, miss the prime rib and chocolate pie, good buffet food with good service and a no tipping policy. Always alot of old people used to eat there, but thats because old people won't eat crappy food. That was reserved for the drive thru taco joint that used to be in the parking lot close to where HyVee is now.
Also wanted to mention the best car wash in town used to be on SE 5th close to where Aldi's is now, it had about 10 bays for cars and trucks, super cheap long running high pressure soap for 50 cents in the 70's and early 80's.

That was "Taco Time". To go into that place and see the employees was to see Beavis and Butthead personified.

Worlds apart in the figurative sense.
