The Finishline closed, that's frustrating. I have a friend that used to work there, they gave her a job at Journey's instead.
Did you see they're reopening that restaurant next to the food court? It's going to be a Chinese food place now.

I've been meaning to revisit this thread. I hadn't heard about the Chinese restaurant, but it's good they're putting something there. I don't have high hopes for the restaurant as Chinese food is pretty much a dime a dozen but I hope I'm wrong. I saw on the sign outside that a new pizza place opened.
I also saw they were having a "gold buyback" there. Not a good sign either.
There's also rumblings of putting a SE branch of the library there, which would be cool.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Southridge. I don't know what would save that place but hopefully someone does.

Why would they put a branch of the library there when they have a South Side branch on Porter Ave. near SE 9th? Or at least they did when I grew up there, not too long ago.
Southridge is in deep, deep trouble. Jordan Creek killed it.

SW 9th... The South Side is good sized and from the Eastern portion of here is a good haul to the library on Porter. If you look at a map of the library locations ( http://www.desmoineslibrary.com/abou...0locations.pdf) there's a good sized area with a noteworthy population (including yours truly) that isn't as well served as most other parts of Des Moines. According to this map they have the SE branch scheduled to open in 2010 way down by County Line. I'd rather see it somewhere in the SE 14 and Park area, but I know Southridge was thrown out there as a potential spot.

Did you all see the report on the news? I guess Southridge is now a "dead mall."
Here's the link for the article and video:
Report Questions Southridge Mall's Future - Money News Story - KCCI Des Moines
Oh, and I love the woman at the end of the video who just shouts "I LOVE SOUTHRIDGE MALL!" and it says, "Jan Genovese 'Southridge Shopper'''. I just thought it was funny.

I just found this report by USNews about the worst-performing malls in the country, and Southridge is listed:
America's Most Endangered Malls - Rick Newman (usnews.com)
Moline's South Park Mall and Omaha's Crossroads are also listed.

Did they film a movie in Southridge? Someone was telling me that they had an extras call or something.

I don't know but the Amish are selling vegetables right by the main entrance for a limited time only. $5, all you can fit in one of their bags. Lots of peppers, tomatoes, onions, squash, pumpkins, etc. Pretty good deal.
