Hey all

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any shops that sell british food other than the few things target sells.

Thanks in advance

In Des Moines? You might want to try Gateway Market, that's probably your best hope. What sort of things are you looking for?

Thanks where abouts is it located? Hmmmm embarassing to say but good old english choccie and biscuits, really wanted some goodies for christmas, without paying the outrageous prices on the expat internet sites.

Gateway is at the corner of MLK and Woodland. You might also want to try World Market in West Des Moines in that same strip that Best Buy is in.

I realize that this is a really old thread, but I just remembered it and thought I'd add, in case anyone else is ever curious:

There is a small British food store in Ames, right on Lincoln Way. It's called Ames British Foods, here is their website: abf (http://amesbritishfoods.com/index.html - broken link)

Yeah, that guy posted a link to his store a while back ago but I deleted it because advertising is not allowed. Recommendations are, however, allowed here at City-Data.

I've never been to the store but I've been a few places where the owner set up shop to peddle his wares and he has a great selection of British goods. Seems like a nice guy and it looks like they're putting together a British festival in Ames in June.

I would say that European Foods on the corner of 76th (may be wrong on the number) and University near Wal-Mart, Gateway Market on off 19th (just north of Ingersoll), Chocoloterie Stam in Valley West Mall, and World Market next to Best Buy off University in WDM should be your best bets. Good luck, and if you need someone to sample just let me know!
