Default Sioux City

I am moving to Sioux City and are recently retired US Army. I understand Morningside/Mountainside and Moville are nice areas. I will be working downtown. I want to know if this is better living in this area or would it be better to live in South Dakota. Thanks all.

If you ask me I would rather live in Iowa, however Ia is a poor state. It is alot prettier there and there is alot of untouched land. But your talking to a country girl so I am kinda partial.

I just moved to the Sioux City area as well. I live over in SD because my work is here and if I live here, too, there's no state income tax. But if you're working downtown Sioux City, you can find just as nice homes for less money on the Iowa side. There are several nice areas--Morningside, the area around the Southern Hills Mall, Moville, Sergeant Bluff, etc. You can also find some gems of old rehab homes near downtown but check the neighborhood carefully first. If you like living in the country, the hills around Sergeant Bluff and also north and east of the city have some great land available.

Good luck with your move.

Thanks for the info. For the first year, we are going to rent an apartment and then after we get comfortable, probably buy a house. I have been told (and seen from the postings) that everyone really wants to help out and give super information, so thank you also for the intel. Have a great week also. Flanman

I'd look at Dakota Dunes, SD. It's a much better area to live than SC (less crime, better schools, nicer homes). Iowa is a nice state with the majority being farmland. I used to live in Remsen, IA (about 40 miles north) on an 800 acre farm. We sold our home but still own the land.

I would personally buy a few acres (1 acre= around $3200-$4400) near SC and build a nice home on it or buy a home in Dakota Dunes.
