Lost Continent is awesome! But I'd also second his other book "Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" In that book he talks about his life growing up in Iowa in the 1950s and includes quite a bit of interesting info about the state from that time period.
Bill Bryson Rocks!

The story of Dewey the library cat was great, it's like cat-lovers version of Marley and Me.

I didn't think of that one, but yes, it's a great book, if you like cats. I enjoyed it.

Jesus' Son is a darker and challenging book of fiction with subtle Iowa City references likely a byproduct from the Author's time at the UI Writers Workshop. This Denis Johnson's collection contains some praiseworthy prose.
The little seen movie of the same name is worth a rent though it too is not happy go lucky with its themes of addiction and recovery.
