Default Dubuque

Can anyone share information on school and areas to live in Dubuque. IBM is creating a tech center there. I wanted to see if this would be a good place to live. I've got 2 kids elementary school age.

My suggestion is this... Look to buy a house or condo in any of the western or southern areas of Dubuque, or in Asbury, or Peosta, Iowa. These areas have the best combination of high-quality housing, good schools, convienent location, and family-friendly neighborhoods. Specifically, Asbury is VERY popular among young families!

If you can help it, look for housing that is close to Carver, Eisenhower, Hoover, Irving, or Kennedy Elementary schools... all on the West Side. Any of these would be an excellent choice. I went to Eisenhower myself.

Even if this is not possible, you will still be in good shape. Dubuque's school system as a whole outscores the state, which, in turn, outscores the nation on standardized tests. Dubuque was twice-named as one of the "100 Best Communities for Young People" (2007 & 2008), and is in the process of investing $100 million in new & improved schools with the proceeds from a one-cent local option sales tax.

School systems:

* Dubuque Community School District
* Holy Family Catholic School System
* Dubuque Lutheran School
* Western Dubuque County Community School District

Good luck, and welcome to Dubuque!
