If commuting isn't an issue for you, be kind to yourself and move to IC.
It's worth a 60 minute drive, trust me.
That is, of course, unless you enjoy chain restaurants, chain stores, and no pedestrian friendly areas that aren't malls.
And sorry to the 95% living life as usual but CR is an awful mess.
Downtown is still a mess - it's not just the *poor neighborhoods* - all of the areas surrounding the river are.
We won't even talk about the number of businesses that were flooded and gone forever - mine included.
The City government is clueless, the tax situation is only going to get worse. My husband and I are way past our 20s and 30s and there is nothing to do there, imo.
It was bad before, it's so much worse since the flood.
Anyone who thinks differently is delusional and probably never ventured to the center of town much anyway.
My apologies to all of the die hard Cedar Rapidians out there but, Cedar Rapids is years away from recovery.
This doesn't get fixed in 8 months - trust me.
